Touching presentation symbolizes OARnet’s efforts

Interim Executive Director Paul Schopis recently accepted an honor from BdREN, recognizing the assistance that OARnet has provided in launching the country’s first network for higher education. The group presented Schopis with a framed, hand-embroidered canvas that depicts Shaheed Minar, a national monument in the country’s capital that commemorates those who died fighting to preserve the country’s mother language of Bengali. 

 

Walsh University Receives Technology Grant

 

North Canton, Ohio (September 19, 2006) – Walsh University received a $120,000 grant from the networking division of Ohio Supercomputer Center on behalf of the Ohio Board of Regents for advancing the University’s technology. The funds will enable Walsh to secure an ultra-high-speed data network connection, enabling collaboration with other similarly-connected institutions on cutting edge research projects and participation in video-conferencing.

Wireless Neighborhood Project Brings Internet to Rural Ohioans

 
 

OARnet plays a leading role in the extension of Internet technology services to rural Ohio through the Connecting Rural Ohio Wireless Neighborhood Project. OARnet, ITEC-Ohio, and OSU engineers worked in conjunction with community leaders in Southern Perry County in Southeastern Ohio to install a satellite dish, LAN and WAN antennae that provide Internet connectivity throughout New Straitsville, Ohio, from a satellite 23,000 miles out in space.

World's First Gigaconference Pushes Videoconference Equipment Limits

 

Columbus, Ohio  (August 5, 2005) - The world' first Gigaconference videoconferencing event opened at noon EST today to showcase the use of high-end, high-performance videoconferencing equipment. The Internet2 Commons and Codian Corp are sponsoring the event.

More than 20 participating sites from around the world are giving presentations on a variety of topics including animated videos, musical performances, classroom teaching experiences, remote medical collaborations, and much more.
