General Notes - Weathermaps are diagrams that display live data, such as utilization and maintenance on our network. Link data is pulled from Statseeker, and will self-update every 30 seconds. This is represented in the page header of each Weathermap with a countdown: there is no need to refresh the map to receive the latest data.

Access - Please visit weathermap.oar.net and login with your OARnet Gateway credentials.

Homepage - This homepage contains links to all available Weathermaps, the description of each map, and its data type. To view a specific map, click on the blue highlighted map name. The “Home” link in the page header of each map will direct you back to this homepage.

Toolbar Options - Open the toolbar by clicking the gear next to the timestamp in the page header. The map’s legend along with view options for link data will appear. For the Optical Weathermap, alarm status will be shown in this space, rather than link utilization.

The link data view options are:

  1. Utilization % (0 - 100)
  2. Bits per Second
  3. Discards % (0-100)
  4. Errors % (0-100)
  5. ISIS Metric Values (only appear on Backbone links)
  6. ISIS Metric Types (only appear on Backbone links)

These values will appear in text below each link between interfaces. Each link between interfaces will be colored to designate their link utilization.

Pan/Zoom – Zoom controls are located In the bottom-right of the browser window, although it’s recommended to use your mouse or trackpad for ease. To pan, click and drag your mouse or trackpad (as you would using Google Maps) over the map. To reset the map to its original position, press the top control button OR resize your browser window. There is no need to refresh the webpage in order to reset the map to properly fit your browser window.

Print View - A print-friendly version of each map is available through the printer icon below the pan/zoom controls.  Follow these steps to customize your print version:

  1. Choose whichever data units you want from the toolbar options in the page header.
  2. Click the print icon below the pan/zoom controls in the bottom-right of the page.
  3. A print-friendly SVG is generated in an external webpage, with the toolbar disabled.
  4. Pan/Zoom controls remain intact.
  5. Take a screenshot, then print the image from your machine.

Interactive Timeframe - Link Mouseover - An interactive timeframe is included when hovering on a map link. Hold your cursor over a link to display the current transmit/receive graph. Once the graph is displayed, move your cursor within the graph to view link traffic over the last 24 hours.

Small 24-Hour Graph Display - Hovering over a link between interfaces will display a small 24 hour graph of the link data option that you chose to view in the toolbar.

Large 24-Hour Graph Display - Clicking any link between two interfaces generates an external webpage, displaying the link data option you chose for the last 24 hours by default. There are a few viewing options located above the graph, where you may change your view data option and timescale. This function doesn’t exist for the Optical Weathermap.
