Internet2 Focused Technical Workshop helps engineers improve network performance

“We are here to enable science.  Big science, with big data, is affected by network failures.”

And with that, Brian Tierney, group leader of the ESnet Advanced Network Technologies Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, kicked off a two-day workshop on perfSONAR. The tool helps network engineers and developers monitor and measure network performance – and limit network failures – from its starting point to its end point.

Internet2, Third Frontier Network, Featured in Emerging Technologies Showcase at Columbus Convention Center

 

Columbus, Ohio - (February 13, 2006) - Internet2, the national high-performance backbone network for higher education and research, will be featured Monday, February 13, 2006 during an emerging technologies showcase at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The 90-minute program will also feature Ohio's OSCnet, the most advanced state-wide fiber optic network for education, research and government.

Keystone Conference Promotes K-12 Internet Videoconferencing

 

(Columbus, Ohio)  July 18, 2005 - The second annual Keystone Conference will be held October 3-5, 2005, in Indianapolis. The conference theme, "Interactive VideoConferencing: Igniting Opportunities for Learning" will bring together educators, videoconferencing leaders, content providers, and industry representatives to learn how interactive videoconferencing (IVC) technology can motivate K-12 students by igniting opportunities for learning.

Larry Faulkner Elected Chair of Internet2 Board of Trustees

 
 

Larry Faulkner, president of the University of Texas at Austin, was recently elected Chair of the Internet2 Board of Trustees. Faulkner succeeds University of North Carolina President Molly Broad, who held the Board Chair position since 2001. Broad served on the Internet2 Board since September 1997 and Faulkner has served since 1998, and began serving as Chair May 1.

Last Mile Enhancement Program brings tenfold increase in broadband speed to 41 Ohio colleges and universities

Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) Chancellor Randy Gardner and OARnet have announced the $12.1 million Last Mile Enhancement Program to increase broadband speeds by 1,000% at 41 Ohio colleges and universities.

The award will also enable all 87 OARnet-connected colleges and universities to double their internet subscriptions for two years beginning Jan. 1, 2021. The added capacity will enable more bandwidth-intensive applications and better facilitate remote instruction.
