The Quilt has announced that Hudnall Croasdale will serve as Executive Director beginning August 1. Croasdale succeeds Gwendolyn Huntoon, The Quilt’s executive director since October 2001, and Assistant Director for Networking at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center.

Croasdale currently serves as the Director for Strategic Partnerships in Information Technology at Virginia Tech, and represents the Network Virginia GigaPop in The Quilt. His responsibilities at Virginia Tech include the development of strategic relationships with corporate and government entities and other institutions of higher education.

"The Quilt is very fortunate to have the experience and vision of Hud Croasdale to build on the leadership and direction established by Wendy Huntoon," said Michael Krugman, chair of The Quilt’s Executive Committee and the Executive Director of the Office of Information Technology at Boston University. "The Quilt has benefited immensely from the talents and energy of Wendy Huntoon over the past three years as it has come to play a respected and trusted role within the networking and broader information technology communities."

Croasdale is based in Richmond, Virginia, and will oversee the day-to-day operations of The Quilt and manage its various programs and forums directed at advancing the missions of the regional networks serving research and education.

“I am very excited to have been selected as the next Quilt Executive Director," said Croasdale.  "This is a critical period in the development and utilization of advanced network infrastructure for research and education. The Quilt will continue to play a major role in this next generation effort."

"The regional networks represented by The Quilt are a critical part of the networking infrastructure that provides advanced networking capabilities to millions of researchers and students at Internet2 member organizations," said Steve Corbató, Director of Backbone Network Infrastructure for Internet2. "I am extremely pleased that Hud Croasdale will be working to continue The Quilt's record of accomplishment."

The Quilt provides a forum for communication, coordination, and consolidation among advanced regional network organizations and others dedicated to advancing research and education in the United States. Participants in The Quilt provide network services for more than 200 Internet2 universities and thousands of other educational institutions.
