OARnet is the most advanced statewide fiber-optic network for education, research, and economic development. It provides dedicated high-speed broadband networking to Ohio's education, research, and manufacturing communities and connection to Internet2, a national high performance backbone network. OARnet, formerly OSCnet) has transformed teaching, learning, scientific research, and networking technologies development. Ohio led the nation with the first high-speed connect among all colleges and universities when it hosted a lighting ceremony with the Ohio Board of Regents on Nov. 30, 2004. On February 27, 2006, Toledo and Scioto Valley Local Schools were the first K-12 systems in Ohio to be connected to OARnet’s fiber-optic network.
