OARnet Shared Services

Co-Location

Co-location ImageOhio colleges, universities and other organizations are increasingly recognizing the benefits of co-locating mission-critical equipment within an OARnet data center. Co-location saves member institutions time and money by leveraging shared infrastructure.

Co-location facilities provide significant benefits of scale (large power and mechanical systems). OARnet’s dedicated data centers provide the full range of IT security: technical support, fire detection and extinguishing devices, multiple connection feeds, filtered power, UPS and other features that ensure high-availability. With IT and communications hardware in a safe, secure data center, OARnet clients can enjoy less latency and the freedom to focus on their core business of education.

Additionally, customers reduce traffic back-haul costs and free up internal networks for other uses. Moreover, by outsourcing network traffic to OARnet, with its vastly greater bandwidth connections, web site access speeds should improve considerably.

OARnet co-location services include:

  • Secure server space
  • Internet connection – 10/100baseT Ethernet
  • 20 amps of AC power
  • IP addresses (16 are included, if required)
  • Primary and secondary DNS for one registered domain name
  • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
  • Standard HP 19” 42U cabinet
  • Controlled environmentals
  • 24-hour access

Additional space and power are available, as well as technical support – please see http://www.oar.net/support or call 1-800-627-6420 for more details.
